CREDIT UNION SUPPORT FOR BOMB VICTIMS
Credit Union support for bomb victims
Credit Unions from over a wide area came together on Tuesday of last week in support of victims of the Omagh bomb. The venue was the premises of Omagh Credit Union in John Street.
In attendance was the national president of the Irish League of Credit Unions (I.L.C.U.), Mr Frank Lynch, who travelled from Nenagh, Co Tipperary. Mr. Lynch was accompanied by Mr. Jim McMahon (Clones), vice-president, I.L.C.U., Mr. Philip Roddy, (Ballybofey/Stranorlar), supervisory committee, I.L.C.U. and Mr. Tony Smith, general secretary, I.L.C.U.
Mr. Lynch, on behalf of the League of Credit Unions, sympathised with the families of the victims of the bomb and those suffering from injuries. He said the League felt it had a duty to support those caught up in this terrible event, especially Credit Union members and their families.
Representatives from Credit Unions gave the visiting officials some details of how members had been affected. Mr. Lynch assured those present that the Irish League of Credit Unions would advise those Credit Unions on how to alleviate the problems which would arise for members and their families over as long a period as was necessary.
Mr. Lynch said he would visit the area again at a later date to make certain all was being done to alleviate the stress which this 'awful event' had caused.
On behalf of local Credit Unions, Mr. Seamus Flanagan (Termonmaguirk) thanked the I.L.C.U. delegation for coming along at this time, and this was supported by Mr. Michael Brogan (Omagh).
Over 20 Credit Unions were represented from chapters one and 17 covering Fermanagh and West Tyrone.
