Those bereaved by the Omagh bombing of August 15 1998, were told that the investigation into the atrocity was still very much alive issue by the former Chief Constable, Sir Ronnie Flanagan, when he visited the town. In a closed meeting it is understood that the Chief Constable told the
families that some of the outstanding questions might never be definitely answered, but went on to stress that those who carried out the attack could still be brought to justice provided the relevant information was passed to police. At that meeting Mr. Flanagan also outlined his response to the damning Police Ombudsman's report which was released at Christmas.
The report was scathing of many aspects of the investigation into the bombing.
