TRIBUTE PAID TO SURGEON'S EXPERTISE AND DEDICATION
Tribute paid to surgeons's expertise and dedication
TRIBUTES to Mr Pinto were paid this week by Mr Richard Scott, chairman of the Sperrin Lakeland Trust.
He said Mr Pinto was held in high regard by his friends and colleagues within the Trust and the community, and by his peers across the Province and within the United Kingdom.
"On behalf of the directors of the Trust Board, I would pay tribute to, and thank, Mr Pinto for his professionalism and expertise and for his dedication, patience and courage during what have, at times, been challenging and difficult times for staff working within our acute hospitals services," Mr Scott said.
He added: "The tragic events of August 15, 1998, will remain in the hearts and minds of many of us for many years to come, and, as an organisation and community, we owe a tremendous debt to Mr Pinto and his colleagues for the selfless way in which they assisted those affected by the bombing.
"More recently, Mr Pinto has been at the forefront of the debate with his colleagues and representatives of the local community on the proposals for the future provision of acute hospital services in the south west, His work on examining some of the key issues within those proposals has, once again, shown his strong belief that the people of the Southwest deserve, and should have access to, local, high quality, health and social services.
"I know his friends and colleagues will be paying tribute to Mr Pinto in their own way, but, on behalf of the Trust Board, I would like to wish him a long and happy, well deserved, retirement."
