Distress for family as photos of bomb victim lost at 10 Downing Street
PHOTOGRAPHS of the post-mortem of one of the young victims of the Omagh bombing have been lost at 10 Downing Street, it has emerged.
Last December Victor Barker sent three photographs taken during the post-mortem of his 11-year old son, James, to the Prime Minister. He had hoped Tony Blair would encourage people in the republican community to come forward with information.
But when he wrote recently to ask for the photographs back, Downing Street officials told him they had been lost. Officials expressed their 'sincere apologies'.
Mr Barker said the loss of the photographs had been extremely distressing to his family.
"I am particularly concerned as to where they are. My wife is down about it. It is typical of how the government has treated the families of Omagh," he said.
