OMAGH GP ELATED BY NOMINATION FOR MAJOR AWARD
Omagh GP 'elated' by nomination for major award
POPULAR and dedicated local GP, Dr. Irfran Hassan, who operates from a practice at Omagh Health Centre, was this week said to be 'elated' to be nominated for the second successive year for the GP of the Year 2002 awards.
The nomination puts him in line for a major accolade, the winner of which will be announced at the Northern Ireland Healthcare Awards at the Europa Hotel, Belfast.
Dr. Hassan was nominated by colleagues and peers from within the healthcare sector, who deemed him to be a GP., who had demonstrated an outstanding dedication and commitment to the medical profession.
Events co-ordinator for the awards, Ms. Susie McDonnell, commented: "From the nomonations received, it is clear that many of his colleagues feel that Dr. Hassan is deserving of this tribute due to his efforts within cardiac rehabilitation and mental health, having played a leading role in the introduction of a practice-based community mental health service and in setting in place a cardiac rehabilitation service.
"Dr. Hassan has also been heavily involved in caring for the victims of the Omagh bombing," she said.
One of the nominators who put forward Dr. Hassan's name for the prestigious accolade, commented: "Dr. Hassan has the unusual gift of making patients feel as if they are the most important people in the world to him. He is greatly admired and loved by colleagues and patients alike."
Ms. McDonnell said it was apparent that Dr. Hassan was elated to be nominated again for the award, having been a finalist in last year's NI Healthcare Awards.
The awards are run in association with the NI Medical Review publication and is the only local awards scheme. It's aim is to recognise the
achievements and dedication of healthcare professionals here.
