WORK on the new Community House building close to the Omagh bomb site is on schedule to be completed by the end of November.
Work began on the site at the junction of Market Street and Drumragh Avenue in July of last year, and despite some difficult construction conditions, the final appearance of the new building is becoming increasingly more apparent.
At the start of September the keys to the private businesses that are part of the project will be handed over to their owners, while the keys to the Community House should be handed over at the end of the year.
Mr Conor McGale, Community House chairman, said it was hoped there could be an official opening in February or March of next year.
At present the groups that will be using the Community House are awaiting the outcome of an application for funding for furniture. It was hoped they could start moving in December, he said.
Two local firms, McBride Dolan Partnership and Architects and Design Partnership, were responsible for the design of the building and for
supervising work.
Mr Peter Dolan told the Tyrone Constitution that work was on schedule for completion at the end of November.
He said it had not been an easy site to work on, given it was bounded by roads on two sides and the river on the third.
In all the circumstances the main contractors, McCann Brothers, Fintona, had done a superb job, Mr Dolan said.
Scaffolding had come down from two of the building's facades and, once glazing was installed, would come down from the third soon, Mr Dolan said.
When the building is finished, it will comprise retail units along the Market Street frontage, including the reconstruction of the 'Kozy Korner' public house.
The Community House will face onto the river, and a number of community groups will relocate to the building.
