US FORENSIC EXPERTS TO EXAMINE BOMB MATERIAL

US forensic experts to examine bomb material

MATERIAL collected after the Omagh bomb explosion of August 15 1998 is to be examined by FBI forensic experts in the hunt for new clues.
The PSNI has confirmed that American experts are now examining some of the material painstakingly collected by police here from the Market Street site of the bomb.
In the days after the blast, skiploads of rubble and other material were collected at the scene and then carefully examined.
Now some of that material is to be further inspected by the US experts.
The hope of the police is that advanced DNA tests available now, but not four years ago, may provide clues that will help identify the killers.
The tests are expected to take several weeks to complete.
The development has been described as "significant" by security sources.
