PIPER'S LAMENT FOR OMAGH
Piper's lament for Omagh
Omagh piper, Drew McDermott, was honoured to play a lament, 'Kilmarnock', at the Market Street site of the bomb, while young people from Omagh Youth Theatre scattered petals on Market Street during Friday's remembrance service.
Proud to have been involved with the 10th anniversary commemoration, he said: "I must thank Omagh District Council for inviting me to be the piper on this occasion. Also the television crews and sound men who were very helpful and kind to me - particularly as we dealt with the heavy rain."
He continued: "Also the people who were around me in the street were very supportive."
Delighted to have been invited to participate, he added: "I received my first ever phonecall from my three and three-quarters year-old grand-daughter Leah. She was very excited to tell that she'd seen me on the television!"
