Reflections on the journey to date'
MEMBERS of an international peace movement will visit Omagh on Saturday for a weekend conference.
The British and Irish Sections of Pax Christi International have adopted the theme 'a journey towards understanding through listening and dialogue'.
The delegates will gather at the Garden of Remembrance at noon on Saturday, and this will be followed by a short prayer service conducted by Rev Kevin Mullan PP.
Other weekend events will be located at the Ulster American Folk Park.
In the afternoon the delegates will take part in a session on 'reflections on the journey to date.' Mr Michael Gallagher will outline to the delegates some of what Omagh bereaved and injured people have come through over the past four years.
The morning session on Sunday will discuss 'Omagh then and now, what it has to say to us'. Speakers will include Bishop Donal McKeown, Belfast, Dr Maureen Andrew, Omagh, and Julitta Clancy, of the Meath Peace Group. The session will be chaired by Betty Newton.
The afternoon session will look at 'The way forward' and speakers will include Bishop Ray Field, of Pax Christi, Ireland, who will give the Republic of Ireland's perspective; Ulster Unionist Roy Garland will give the Northern Ireland perspective; Mark James, of Pax Christi Britain will give the British perspective; Rev Ian Mairs, of Mountjoy Presbyterian Church, will give the Omagh perspective; and Paul Lansu, Pax Christi International, Brussels, will give the organisation's perspective.
The session will be chaired by Gerry McFlynn and delegates and visitors will have a chance to ask questions of the panel.
