NEW OFFICER TO HEAD OMAGH BOMB PROBE

New officer to head Omagh bomb probe

THE PSNI has appointed a new officer to take charge of the Omagh bomb investigation.
He is Detective Superintendent Norman Baxter, who is currently based in Enniskillen.
Supt. Baxter has taken over from Supt. Brian McArthur, who retires from the police later this year.
It is now almost four years since the bomb atrocity, and in that time police have taken more than 4, 700 statements and 6,000 people have been interviewed. Only one person has been charged and is currently serving a jail sentence in the Republic for conspiracy.
Supt. Baxter is one of the PSNI's most experienced detectives, and in recent times has been working on the Arlene Arkinson murder case.
