LOCAL SINGER RELEASES DEBUT SINGLE, WITH ALBUM ON THE WAY
Local singer releases debut single, with an album on the way
A LOCAL rising star of Country Music is set to start out on the road of fame with the release of his debut single.
Johnathan Mehaffey, 30, of Omagh, is no stranger to the music industry having shown a progressive interest over many years.
Musical talent has been innherited through his family with one of his cousins being Country and Gospel singer, Derrick Mehaffey of Fintona, and Johnathan appears to have a natural sound talent when putting pen to paper.
Johnathan has performed in an array of local events including variety concerts held at the Hospital Road Community Centre, St Joseph's Hall, Castlederg and Drumquin.
Speaking of his influences, the Country-orientated singer/songwriter said that his style has stemmed from the likes of Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard and the Mavericks.
"With the release of my single I am hoping to get my name known as a new singer in town. Following this single I plan to release another in about four weeks or so, which will also be a double track.
"And a few months after that I plan to release my debut album, which has nine tracks all written and performed by myself.
"The album is dedicated to my late brother, Tony, who when he was living also showed a great interest in music and was lead singer in a band called 'Fantasy', I guess in a sense I am just carrying on from where he left off," he said.
Entitled 'Only You' the double track single also includes the song 'The Spires of Hope'.
Written in the aftermath of the Omagh Bomb of 1998, Johnathan said that he wrote 'The Spires of Hope' with a positive outlook with hope for the future of the town.
And added that 'Only You' was written as a love ballad just over a month ago.
The single which is now available locally, is also available at shops in both Enniskillen and Fermanagh.
