LORETO GRAMMAR'S SENIOR CHOIR WINS THREE IN A ROW
Loreto Grammar's senior choir wins three in a row!
IT WAS an exciting evening for Loreto Grammar School's senior choir, when they won the Western Area Grammar School section of the UTV 'School Choir of the Year' in the Whitla Hall, Belfast.
This is Loreto's third successive year winning through to the final of this prestigious competition.
Mr. Gerard Bradley, the delighted choir's conductor, told the Tyrone Constitution this week: "The success of the choir is due to their dedication and commitment during their rehearsals, every lunchtime and after school on Thursdays.
"The choir, formed in 1991, comprises 114 pupils, one eighth of the school's total population and their highlights include recording a CD, "To swim with Dolphins", in memory of Jolene Marlow, a pupil who died in the Omagh bomb, and performing Faure's Requiem in the Sacred Heart Church, Omagh, at a celebration tribute for the Loreto Sisters last year," he said.
Mr. Bradley added: "The choir toured Prague and Vienna in Autumn 2000 performing at The Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna and The Academy of Musical Arts in Prague.
"The final of the UTV 'School Choir of the Year' takes place in the Whitla Hall, Belfast on Saturday, when the choir will perform the majestic 'Prayer to St. Francis', the haunting 'She moved through the fair' and their final song 'Little David playing your harp', he continued.
Mr. Bradley concluded: "The girls enjoy performing and I am very proud of their efforts. I hope we can bring back the coveted UTV School Choir of the Year trophy on Saturday."
