FORMER OMAGH PUPILS FEATURE IN CD TRIBUTE TO CO GALWAY TEENAGER

Former Omagh pupils feature in CD tribute to Co Galway teenager

Local talents and ex-Loreto Grammar School, Omagh pupils Aileen Moynagh, Elaine Kelly and Sarah McGale were just some of the young singers and musicians who were invited by Enniskillen-born Ciaran Mulhern of Bearna, Co. Galway to join him in putting together a 14-track CD-album entitled 'A Lullaby for Lori', a tribute to 14-year-old Lori McMahon of Bearna Village, Co. Galway, who died on February 23, 2000, a victim of cystic fibrosis.
The project was initiated, managed and co-ordinated by Ciaran, and production work conducted under the supervision of Aileen Moynagh commenced in February of last year. Recording took place over a 10-day period last Autumn at the Gateway Studios, Oughterard, Co. Galway under the technical supervision of Open Ear Productions Ltd., also a Co. Galway company.
The musical collection featured on the album, which enjoyed a highly successful launch recently, is the product of the efforts of a host of talented individuals recruited by co-producers Moynagh and Mulhern, in the main, from the Final Year of the Music Dept. of Queen's University Belfast, some of whom were involved in a similar project in 1999, namely 'to swim with dolphins - for Jolene in loving memory', also a CD-tribute, this time to an employee of Ciaran's, 17-year-old Jolene Briege Marlow from Omagh, who was tragically killed in the terrorist bomb of Saturday, August 15,1998 in Market Street, Omagh, which claimed 29 lives.
Elaine Kelly and Sarah McGale, who deliver highly impressive solo renditions of 'Angel', 'Lift the Wings' and 'Loving Arms' on the album, and their friends from Queen's Belfast are joined for the production by Anne, Bridin and Pauline Mc Nulty from Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, who provide wonderful and truly memorable performances of such favourites as 'Sonny', 'Brahms Lullaby', 'One Child' and 'Danny Boy'.
Further tracks performed by the contributors from Queen's Belfast include 'Love Oh Love', 'Fields of Gold', 'Lift the Wings' and a magnificent Disney medley featuring well-known titles from 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Aladdin', 'The Little Mermaid' and 'The Lion King'. The very talented and promising Aileen Moynagh's contribution to the success of the album in the capacity of musician, musical director and co-producer warrants extra-special acknowledgement.
In the light of the productions being a tribute to a child and the fact that the launch of the album was successfully scheduled to take place at the beginning of the Christmas season, the producers quite intentionally added a touch of Christmas to the overall mix. Performances of 'O Holy Night', ' When a Child is Born' and 'Silent Night' cannot help but impress.
Any profits secured through the sale of the CD as well as through the various fundraising activities which accompanied the launch-preparations over a period of several weeks will go towards supporting the research effort of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland.
The album 'A Lullaby for Lori' is available on mail order together with a 12-page, full-colour CD-booklet at a price of 11 including packaging & postage and may be purchased through, Open Ear Productions Limited Main Street OUGHTERARD Co. Galway, (Tel 00353-91-55-28-16)
