Confidence in local police chief 'firmly intact'
RELATIVES of some of those who died in the Omagh bomb attack have said their confidence in the area's police commander remains firmly intact, in spite of the claims made in the leaked Ombudsman's report.
Superintendent James Baxter met relatives on Friday last and discussed issues relating to the leak.
In a statement afterwards, Supt Baxter said: "I told the families that if they had any lack of confidence in me as police commander for the area, I would ask the chief constable to move me.
"I will happily go anywhere else if the families have no confidence in me."
One of the relatives who met Supt. Baxter was Mr. Michael Gallagher, who said no one wanted him to move.
"Many of us said we were happy with him and that was not what we wanted.
"I think it is important that people know that. We are certainly not attacking the police. The police on the ground in Omagh worked to the best of their ability on that day."
