£1.8m Omagh bomb site scheme back on course

BUILDING work on the new Community House at the Market Street bomb site in Omagh should be completed by this time next year, it was confirmed this week.
The building work is now back on course after piling work was delayed due to ground conditions.
However, the builders and developers say the work is scheduled for completion within 12 months.
The new Community House in being built at the junction of Market Street and Drumragh Avenue.
The £1.8 million project is intended to establish a landmark building that will serve as a 'one-stop shop' for the community and voluntary sectors in the Omagh area. Three private landowners will retain premises on the ground floor.
The building will consist of four floors, including a basement and attic.
Mr. Peter Dolan, of the McBride Dolan Partnership, architects, said this week that ground conditions had halted piling work for a time, but this had resumed and been completed.
It was a difficult site, Mr. Dolan explained, not only because of the proximity of the river, but also the need to minimise any detrimental impact on the roads and bridge.
Work has now started on the basement, Mr. Dolan added.
The site is currently surrounded by hoardings, and Mr. Dolan said little would be visible to the public eye until the building reached first floor level.
The scheme has been designed by two local firms, McBride Dolan Partnership and ADP, while the main contractors are McCann Brothers, of Fintona.
