MBE FOR RED CROSS WOMAN WHO HELPED OMAGH BOMB SURVIVORS
MBE for Red Cross women who helped ease the trauma of Omagh bomb survivors
MANY years of dedicated service by a Carrickmore woman to the Red Cross were recognised at the weekend when she was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, one of a number of Tyrone people to be included.
Mrs. Edith Hadden - renowned for her friendly words and broad smile for everyone has worked with the Red Cross at the Omagh office for 10 years, and is also known for her work with many other charities and good causes.
Mrs. Hadden, a member of a well known business family in the Carrickmore area, is currently abroad on holiday.
Red Cross area manager, Mrs. Norma Groves, said everyone at the local office was "over the moon" at the award for Mrs. Hadden.
"She has been with us 10 years and is absolutely dedicated to her work. She is such a modest person and thoroughly deserves the award," said Mrs Groves.
She added: "Edith has been a reliable and supportive volunteer over many years. Patients who have benefited from her service include survivors of the Omagh bombing, where Edith's skills have helped to relieve some of the trauma experienced.
"Not only is Edith a committed volunteer regarding service delivery, but she also trains and assesses new volunteers in therapeutic care for the Western Branch."
Skin camouflage helps individuals with disfiguring marks, such as scars and birthmarks through the application of prescribable cover creams.
The therapeutic care service can help individuals to relax and reduces stress for those who are anxious or ill and can be effective in relieving pain.
Red Cross volunteers offer neck and shoulder and hand and arm massage to people in stressful situations.
In a statement, the Red Cross said Mrs. Hadden's name had been synonymous with the therapeutic care service in the Western Branch since she joined in 1991.
"At that time Edith was providing services of patients in the Tyrone County Hospital, and later at Gortmore Day Centre. In addition to therapeutic care, Edith provides skin camouflage, which is currently available at Omagh Health Centre."
