WORLD CHAMPS TO FEATURE IN TUG-O-WAR EVENT

World champs to feature in Omagh tug-of-war event

THE Northern Ireland Tug-of-War Association is holding a major indoor tug-of-war competition this Saturday in Omagh Leisure Complex in aid of the Omagh Memorial Fund.
Top calibre teams from all over Ireland are expected to attend and the standard will be world class.
Expected teams are Richhill, from Co. Armagh, who won a bronze at the last World Championships at 560 kilo weight class; St. Pat's, the current world champions at 600 kilos and possibly the best indoor team in the world at lightweight. Clanmany from Donegal, former world champions at 680kilos and showing fine form this season, Braemore farmers, from Co. Dublin, who hold a host of international medals at both indoor and outdoor.
Other teams to watch for, Coolderry from South Armagh, completely made up from the Conway family; Clontagh from Donegal, current Republic of Ireland champions with their "never say die" attitude which epitomises the sport of tug-of-war.
Local teams and organisers will feature in the 640 kilo class and Newtownstewart's Gallagher boys, John and Paul are ones to watch out for.
The action starts at 6p.m.
