TENNIS OFFICIALS ATTEND BIG MATCH
Tennis officials attend 'big match'
TWO members of Omagh Lawn Tennis Club, Billy and Dorothy Pollock, represented it at the exhibition tennis match between the British champion Greg Rusedski and the great German star Boris Becker at London's David Lloyd centre.
The memorable night raised �30,000 for the Omagh Memorial Fund and the Pollocks met the German Embassy officials afterwards to thank them.
On Sunday, the regional matchplay under-16 championship was held in Omagh.
After some spell-binding tennis from the best young talent in the West of the Province, including Omagh's Garth McCutcheon, Michael Beare (Irvinestown) defeated Grant Hurst (Irvinestown) to win the boy's section and Eilish Lunny (Enniskillen) defeated Jenny Fee (Enniskillen) to win the girl's section.
Both finals produced tennis of an extremely high standard. Both, winners now play in the Ulster Championships at Belfast Boat Club on December 12.
Meanwhile, the club's internal Winter League continues every Tuesday night and 'Top Gun' are still in front closely pursed by the 'Fixers' captained by Jimmy McCutcheon and Valerie Rowan.
