CHEQUE FOR OMAGH FUND PRESENTED BY OFFICIALS OF RIDLEY'S BAR IN DUNDALK
Officials of the fundraising group attached to Ridley's Bar in Dundalk, Mr. Eamonn Moffitt, chairman, Mr. Brian Oliver, treasurer, and Mr. Nial Donlon, deputising for vice-chairman, Mr. Barry Kehoe, who presented a cheque to the Omagh Fund prior to the kick-off at an Omagh Town home game.
Explained Mr. Moffitt: "The cheque represents the proceeds of a draw held for a football autographed by the players of Manchester United".
The chairman, who had met three of the August 15 bomb's bereaved, said the visit to St. Julian's Road following a walk through the town, had been a very emotional experience for him.
He continued: "I have been in Omagh in the past, and the scenes I saw today were heartbreaking. I now know how Bill Clinton and Tony Blair felt when they visited Omagh.
"We wish to extend belated sympathy to the bereaved of Omagh, Buncrana and Madrid, to the injured, especially to those still in hospital, and wish them a speedy recovery".
Mr. Moffitt said he wished to thank Frank Sweeney and Brian Oliphant for their help and cooperation in preparing for his groups visit to Omagh, and Manchester United for autographing the ball.
"I wish to thank Alex Ferguson, Danny McGregor, Jim Ryan, Wendy and Hilary for all their assistance, and you, Mr. Chairman, for your welcome today", he told council chairman, Mr. Sean Clarke, who was accompanied by councillor, Reuben McKelvey.
