REMEMBERING OMAGH IN BALLINA
Remembering Omagh' in Ballina
ON the invitation of Moy Valley Comhaltas, a party of traditional musicians, singers and dancers spent a weekend recently in the Mayo town of Ballina.
The event was called 'Remembering Omagh' and during their stay donations were handed over for the Omagh Fund.
A local community association presented �1,300 to Mr. Paddy McGowan at a civic reception given by Ballina U.D.C.
At another event, �2,500, the proceeds of a ceili, raffles and auction, was handed over to Mr. Eamon Prunty, chairman of Omagh branch of Comhaltas.
The visiting group, consisting mainly of young musicians and singers, were made very welcome throughout the town of Ballina and surrounding area.
It is planned to have a return visit by performers from the Mayo area in the near future.
