£1,200 raised for Omagh Fund at clay pigeon shoot

A TOTAL of 75 guns attended the 100 DTL registered shoot at the Omagh and District Clay Pigeon Club when the proceeds were donated to the Omagh Memorial Fund.
Local club shooters who claimed two places in each of the four classes were B. McGillion and J. Crozier (class AA), John Gallagher and N. McCann (class A), D. McLaughlin and P. McKeown (class B), F. McGurgan and E. McClements (class C).
J. Doherty, from Donegal recorded the magic 100/300 on squad two, while S. T. Alien had 75 bottom barrels going into the last 25 birds and finished with a score of 100/298.
Local shooter, B. McGillion, halved his 15th bird to finish with a score of 100/299. Dromore's J. Crozier halved his third and 87th bird to finish on 100/298.
Final placings were: High gun, J. Doherty. 100/300; class AA, B. McGillion, 100/299; 2 (tie), J. Crozier and S. T. Alien; class A, 1, J. Galvin, 100/297, 2, J. Gallagher, 99/295; 3 (tie), N. McCann and R. Mitchell, 99/294; class B, 1, D. McLaughlin, 98/290; 2, R. V. McClelland, 97/285; 3, P. McKeown and W. Black 96/284; class C, 1, F. McGurgan, 98/283; 2, E. McClements, 93/276; 3, F. McKay, 93/270.
Notable scores were recorded by M. Martin (100/297), R. Ward (100/296), D. Davison (100/293), J. Knox (98/293), R. Crozier (99/293) and T. Woodhead (98/291).
Donegal veteran, J. Campbell halved his first bird and finished with a score of 97/288.
Shooters relaxing at the clubhouse were treated to tasty snacks supplied by Caldwell Catering.
The Omagh and District Clay Pigeon Club are grateful to those who made donations or who assisted in any way.
A total sum of £1,200 was raised in aid of the fund and the local club has thanked the shooters who travelled from different parts of Ireland to take part in the shoot.
The winner of the 250 mirage cartridges was C. McElduff from Mountfield.

Meanwhile, Irish international, Mervyn Martin, is now ranked in 18th place at 'down the line' in the British rankings. Martin is the only Irish DTL shooter in the top 20 ranking this year.
A minimum of four ranking shoots are required to obtain ranking points which are then added together and the shooter then received his Great Britain ranking. Martin also claimed 16th place in the European championship recently in which over 200 guns took part.
Irish International, Ian Caldwell, has been selected again to shoot for the Ireland A.B.T. team.
At the Al shooting ground in London, Caldwell shot an excellent 136/150 in London Grand Prix Trench Championship to claim second place in his class. This was worth £500 in prize money.
