Go-kart crazy' day raises £17,000 for the Omagh Fund

STAFF from Omagh and Strabane District Councils competed in a 'go-kart crazy' competition at the weekend in a charity fundraising day in aid of the Omagh Fund.
There was £17,000 raised for the appeal fund.
The local council teams competed against other local authorities and private companies in the event which was organised by TASK Software Ltd., Antrim. The racing was held on the Nutts Corner circuit.
Speeches from Antrim mayor, Paddy Marks and TASK'S managing director, Colin Reid, opened the event and then it was time for the teams to perform their version of the 'Le Mans' start for the kart racing.
Later, television personalities, Pamela Ballentine and Gerry Kelly, offered their support by opening the afternoon race.
Although the Endurance Race was the main event for the fundraiser, many other activities, including bouncy castles, pony rides, face painting, novelty races and a penalty kick competition also took place which catered for all the age groups attending.
TASK had set a target to raise £20,000 by the end of September, and the amount raised at the weekend has gone a long way to achieving that, a spokeswoman said.
TASK staff from their England office will parachute from planes for the Omagh Fund and a much sought after football, signed by-Manchester United will be auctioned by Wilf McGuinness, a former player and manager of the Red Devils, at the annual sporting dinner.
