NEW REFERRALS TO TRAUMA CENTRE
New referrals to trauma centre
AN all-inclusive and dignified event that will have helped many people come to terms with the after effects of last August's bombing was the description given by the Bridge Centre trauma team coordinator, Mr. Michael Duffy, in relation to the open air service in Omagh on Sunday.
Since the bomb blast, the trauma team has helped more than 400 people with the mental stresses the atrocity caused.
In the days running up to the anniversary, the team was still seeing people for the first time, and Mr. Duffy said there had been many new enquiries since.
He said the team wanted to stress it was normal for people to feel emotions of many kinds after such a traumatic event.
"All the coverage in the run-up to the anniversary rekindled a lot of powerful emotions that people had," Mr. Duffy said.
"It is normal to have an outpouring of the grief, suffering and loss that people have had," he added.
The weekend was a very important part of the healing process, Mr. Duffy went on.
Many people could not face a public expression of grief, but a large number of families had felt differently.
The ceremony had been very tasteful in terms of its approach and content, he said.
"It was about remembrance, but also about hope and change, and many of the victims were uplifted by it," he said.
He said the event had given out a very clear message of inspiration and hope.
