Gunners, Spurs and Leeds next for Omagh visit?
FLUSHED with the successful outcome of their high profile friendlies with Chelsea and Manchester United in recent weeks, Omagh Town are planning another triple header at St. Julian's Road.
Liverpool's visit on Monday, October 18 the match kicks off at 6pm completes the original three match bill.
But this week, Town boss, Roy McCreadie, unveiled plans for further glamour games in the next 10 weeks, involving bitter North London rivals, Arsenal and Spurs, and David O'Leary's Leeds United.
"I have spoken to representatives of all three Premiership clubs on the telephone, and issued follow-up faxes as they requested," he told the Tyrone Constitution on Tuesday evening.
"Both Arsenal and Spurs were aware of the visits of United and Chelsea, and indicated they, too, would wish to be associated with the Omagh Fund.
"The temporary seating at the ground will remain in place until the end of October, and I believe it is right that we should try to make use of it to maximise local fundraising efforts. The first two matches were a huge success, and, while we are in the position of simply having to push a button to make it all happen again, we should do our utmost to see that it does happen again," he said.
He went on: "Of course, short notice may prevent any of the clubs I have now spoken to coming over. If that is the case I will shift my sights, if necessary, to the Scottish Premier League. It is important to raise as much money as possible for the Omagh Fund while we can.
"What has happened at St. Julian's Road in the past few weeks has been good for the Fund, good for the local community, good for my players, and good for football."
And McCreadie argued that the bump as his players come back down to earth to begin their promotion campaign at Taylor's Avenue on Saturday, will not be an audible one.
"Yes, its back to basics, but I don't think the players will be affected in any way. Of course, they were up for the recent big games, but we worked harder this pre-season than in any other to prepare for those matches, and that, I would suggest, will be the telling factor," he claimed.
