OMAGH: IN MEMORIAM (POEM)
Omagh: In Memoriam
The horror simply does not go away,
It will be with me 'til the day I die.
Those images frequent me night and day,
But other memories rise up, by and by.
I spent my happy childhood in that place.
Familiar streets I walked so long ago.
To school, to shops, to church with loving friends,
In peace, the way of life a child should know.
All that, by now is 50 years ago,
But vivid in my mind as yesterday.
You take the woman out of dear Tyrone,
Tyrone out of the woman there's no way.
I come back now and gaze upon the place
That moulded me, prepared me for my life.
Grieve for the dead, and thinking of the maimed.
God grant it was a worthwhile sacrifice.
