MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO BOMB VICTIMS
A SPECIALLY commissioned piece of music for classical guitar has been written by the composer William Lovelady, in memory of all those who lost their lives last August in the bomb in Omagh.
The composer was inspired by a headline that he saw in a Belfast newspaper written by Lindy McDowell. "This morning in Omagh the sun rose again. The birds were even singing in the trees. But nothing can convey the pain and sense of loss of the people here."
On Sunday this piece will be played by the well-known guitarist Amanda Cook at the morning service in Baronscourt Parish Church at 9.30 a.m. followed by the morning service at Ardstraw Parish Church in Newtownstewart at 10.45 a.m.
Amanda, who is one of the up and coming young British guitarists, has performed throughout the UK and Ireland, and has won several significant competitions.
She will first play "Prelude from Cello Suite No.6" by J. S. Bach followed by the new piece "This morning in Omagh the sun rose again" by W. Lovelady as a tribute to Omagh.
"As this short performance will take place instead of a sermon, it is hoped that it will provide an opportunity for each of us to find a peaceful space to remember the tragic event that befell our community last year and at the same time allow the healing power of music to touch our lives," said the rector, Rev. Bill McNee.
