SHATTERED HEARTS (POEM)

SHATTERED HEARTS

A cloud hangs over Ireland
And it darkens every home.
But it's darkest over Omagh Town
In the County of Tyrone.
Broken spirits and shattered hearts,
And teardrops filled with grief,
Lay scattered over Market Street,
A scene beyond belief.
Mothers, fathers and children,
In an instant lost their lives,
Death and evil danced with glee,
As the reaper swung his scythe.
The magnitude of this carnage
Fills the minds of those who sought,
To find life among the broken limbs.
It's forever embedded in their thoughts.
Those who moved the glass and rubble,
Where the silent bodies lay,
Found their own friends and family
To their horror and dismay.
A woman with her mother and daughter
And the twins within her womb,
Walk hand and hand to meet their God,
While we lay them in a tomb.
Many more lost sight and limb,
As debris filled the skies
And thousands watched a horror,
That will haunt them all their lives.
Grief has gripped our Nation,
And many kneel and pray
For everyone in Omagh,
And the remembrance of that day.
Blessed are those who mourn
For they will be comforted.
