FIFTEENTH OF AUGUST (POEM)
Fifteenth of August
When we walk down the town again,
We will tread softly, Oh so softly,
On the ground where they lay.
We will hear again,
The anguished screams of the maimed,
The silence of the dying.
We will remember how,
Fathers, mothers, sons and daughters
Clawed at the rubble, choked on the dust,
in desperation; in despair.
We will remember how
Men and women, boys and girls
Lifted the wounded, covered the dead,
And wept for the living,
In Omagh on the fifteenth of August.
