OPEN LETTER TO PEOPLE OF OMAGH AND DISTRICT

Open letter to people of Omagh and district

Sir,
On behalf of the Northern Ireland Committee, Irish Congress of Trade Unions, 1 wish to take this opportunity to again state our sympathy for the people of Omagh and surrounding areas who suffered so tragically on August
These condolences are shared not only by the Trade Union Movement throughout Ireland but also by the two Spanish Trade Union Confederations, the British TUC and the Canadian Labour Congress. Messages of sympathy have also been received at our office from colleagues in the U.S.A., Israel and Australia amongst others. This is a clear indication that the Trade Union Movement is solidly behind the Peace Agreement, and is also an expression of international solidarity with your local community.
We in ICTU will continue to do all we can to help provide a peaceful and progressive society for us all. Our affiliated organisations continue to work closely with their members who live and work in the Omagh area, particularly those in the emergency services and in health and personal social services and local government who worked so heroically on behalf of their own community.
We hope that these words will be taken in the spirit of friendship and sympathy with all of you.
Yours
TOM GILLEN
Acting NJ. officer
