LIGHT OF FAITH AND UNITY SHONE LIKE A BEACON
LIGHT OF FAITH AND UNITY SHONE LIKE A BEACON
Sir,
I lived and worked in Omagh for more than a decade (1941/1953) and when I left I took with me nothing but happy memories of the friendliness and integrity of the people of West Tyrone.
Providing freedom from want was my official duty. My office at 1 Dublin Road was close to the site of the terrible carnage of August 15.
I have been shocked and saddened by the diabolical outrage and my prayers and sympathy go out to all who have suffered.
All my happy memories have been eclipsed by the slaughter of the innocents of West Tyrone, Buncrana and Spain, and thoughts of Omagh will forever be sad memories of mans' inhumanity to man.
Overall, however, a bright light has shone. The light of faith and unity demonstrated by all concerned with comforting the injured and the sorrowful has shone like a beacon before all the world.
May God comfort all who weep.
Yours,
Patrick Smyth,
Lurgan.
