Paralysed US policeman brings his message of forgiveness to Omagh
A NEW York City police officer, with a special message of forgiveness, visited Omagh on Thursday last.
Mr Steve McDonald was paralysed from the neck down since 1986, when he was shot by a teenager.
Despite the fact that he is confined to a wheelchair, and breathing through a tracheostomy, Mr McDonald recently undertook a nine-day tour of Ireland, called Project Reconciliation.
His tour began in Dublin, where he was welcomed by Irish Prime Minister, Mr Bertie Ahern, before travelling to Omagh.
Accompanied by Rev Kevin Mullan, he met with local traders and townspeople, and explained how he found new hope and strength to move on by forgiving.
During his visit to Northern Ireland he attended mass at St Teresa's in Belfast, and spoke at a service at the West Belfast Mission, and he also met the widow of Mr Gordon Wilson, RUC chief Mr Ronnie Flanagan and republican and loyalist prisoners at the Maze.
