SISTER PAYS LOVING TRIBUTE TO YOUNG VICTIM
Sister pays loving tribute to young victim
OMAGH High School pupil, Alan Radford (16), who had been due to receive his GCSE results on Tuesday of last week, was one of the 16 victims buried on Wednesday of last week.
He had been in town helping his mother, Mrs. Marion Radford, to do the weekly shopping when he was killed by the bomb which claimed 28 innocent lives and injured hundreds more.
At the funeral service, at the family's Castleview home, just off Old Mountfield Road, in Omagh, Alan's headmaster, Mr. Bill Harper and Mr. Brian Peacock, a member of the Mormon Church to which the Radford family belonged, addressed the mourners.
Alan's sister, Claire, one year his junior, read a loving tribute, a poem written by her in his honour, which moved mourners to tears.
Speaking after the service, Mr. Peacock said Alan was a very helpful, caring boy, with a strong faith in God, who practised the Christian principles be believed.
He said the Radford family had taken a great deal of comfort from the support they received from all sides of the local community, as well as from messages of sympathy from all over the world.
Hundreds of mourners gathered outside the house to pay tribute to the teenager, and follow the cortege on its short journey to Greenhill Cemetery, Gortin Road where Alan was laid to rest.
Alan is survived by his parents Marion and Melvin, and by his brothers and sisters, Elaine, Paul, Carol, Lynne, Claire, Glen, Allison and Heather, and wider family circle.
