HOSPITAL INUNDATED WITH OFFERS OF GIFTS AND HELP
Hospital inundated with offers of gifts and help
A MASSIVE delivery of flowers, gifts, food and fruit hampers was made to Tyrone County Hospital on Wednesday of last week.
It was assembled by a number of people from Dublin, some of whom accompanied the delivery, which filled two rooms at the hospital's Postgraduate Centre.
Similar collections from the southern capital are understood to have been made to the Erne Hospital in Enniskillen, and to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
A spokeswoman for Sperrin Lakeland Health and Social Care Trust said it had been inundated with offers of gifts and help.
She said: "The Trust has been overwhelmed, and appreciates the many acts of kindness and messages of support and sympathy it has received in the wake of the Omagh bombing.
"Since the tragic events of August 15, letters, cards, flowers and gifts have been arriving from across the Province, the Republic of Ireland, Great Britain, and, from as far away as Australia."
Staff at the 'County' had been on hand to receive the Dublin consignment, the spokeswoman added.
"Those who came with it asked that it be given to the people of Omagh, to the injured, the bereaved, and to hospital and community staff who had worked with the injured and bereaved," she explained.
Some of the flowers and gifts were distributed within the hospital and, with assistance from the Red Cross, the remaining items were delivered to some of the many organisations, which had helped in the aftermath of the bomb.
