THE new security measures outlined by the Prime Minister in Omagh on Tuesday were "too little, too late", West Tyrone MP, Mr. William Thompson said.
After hearing Mr. Tony Blair outline his proposals, Mr Thompson said they fell short of what was needed.
He said he welcomed the new legislation which meant a suspected member of a banned organisation could be convicted on the word of a senior police officer, but said that was still not a good enough way of dealing with terrorism.
Mr Thompson said he wanted to see internment restored to the UK statute book.
"I have no doubt that if we had that particular power in Northern Ireland and the Republic it would be a lot easier to beat terrorism," he said.
He said he was not convinced of the Government's determination of making the new legislation apply to the IRA.
