REMEMBRANCE BOOK TO BE CREATED FROM CARING MESSAGES
Remembrance book to be created from caring messages
A BOOK of remembrance is to be created out of the messages and cards attached to the many hundreds of floral tributes left in the aftermath of the Omagh bombing.
Options regarding what to do with the flowers are currently being considered by the district council.
At a special council meeting on Tuesday, it was agreed that a remembrance book be composed. The council also agreed that the many toys and teddies left in the town centre and at Drumragh Bridge should be passed on to hospitals and children's homes, possibly by relatives of the victims.
It is hoped to include a poem written by one of the victims, 12-year-old Buncrana boy, Sean McLaughlin, in a book of poems, to be collated by the council based on material submitted with the messages of sympathy.
The schoolboy recently presented the poem on peace to Irish President, Mary McAleese.
Councillors also agreed to send representatives to Spain at the end of September, in conjunction with Buncrana Council, to meet the relatives of those children killed and injured in the bomb attack.
Floral gifts are to be sent by the council to all the injured still in hospital, and letters of best wishes are to be sent to those who have already been discharged.
Meanwhile, Mr. Pat McDonnell is to represent the council at a special service in St. Bridget's Church, Wexford, on Sunday.
And yesterday (Wednesday) Mr. Paddy McGowan attended a service in St. Johns Lane Church, Liberties, Dublin, on behalf of the local authority.
