A SAD DAY IN COUNTY TYRONE (POEM)
A SAD SAD DAY IN COUNTY TYRONE
The day began as most days do,
With the ordinary things in life at home,
It ended for them at ten past three,
A sad sad day in County Tyrone.
They went out to do what most folks do,
Their hearts were light, their spirits bourne
But they didn't know what was to be
On this sad sad day in County Tyrone.
They didn't speak of evil deeds,
As they bade farewell to their family home,
But waved their hands to the ones they loved,
That sad sad day in County Tyrone.
There were children there who came from Spain,
And babies, too, who were barely born.
Together they died and shared the pain,
On a sad sad day in County Tyrone.
There were parents, too, the newsmen said,
Mothers and fathers who loved their own.
Their lives are gone, and they are dead,
A sad sad day in County Tyrone.
Their growing sons had much to give,
The young girls' lives had just begun.
Now all they have are the memories,
Since that sad sad day in County Tyrone.
They stood together in the sun,
Their lips made not a sound or moan,
The blinding flash was the last they saw,
Of a sad sad day in County Tyrone.
In Omagh town on that fateful day,
Blood upon blood, bone upon bone,
They died together, where they lay,
On that sad sad day in County Tyrone.
