Constable's tribute to off-duty nurse
A YOUNG police constable, who was among those who went to the aid of victims of the bombing, is trying to track down an off-duty nurse to thank him for his help.
Constable Norman Haslett said that, after the explosion, he had come across a girl lying in the middle of the street with serious head injuries.
With the help of an off-duty nurse, he got her into the car to take her to hospital.
"The nurse, who I think may have been called Paddy, got into the back of the car and talked to and comforted the girl on the way to the hospital. Unfortunately, I learned later that she died," Constable Haslett said.
The police officer, who attended Saturday's remembrance service in Omagh, said he would like the nurse to get in touch with him, so he can thank him for his efforts.
He also paid tribute to the members of the public who had rushed to help the injured.
