US President to visit Omagh
US PRESIDENT, Mr. Bill Clinton, will visit Omagh next Thursday, the White House confirmed last night (Wednesday).
Mr. Clinton, who condemned the bombers and sent a message of condolence immediately after the blast, had been due to visit Ireland next week anyway, but has changed his plans to include a visit to Omagh.
The President saw the visit as a way of continuing to support the peace process and making it clear to those who supported violence that they would not succeed, a White House official said.
Mr. Clinton also wanted "to express his sympathy and condolences" to the community of Omagh, added the spokesman.
Mr. Clinton will spend three days in Ireland.
