OUTRAGE SPARKS MEMORIES OF WARRINGTON BOMB

Like everyone else I was horrified as the news reports of the tragedy in Omagh began to come through on Saturday. I immediately thought of my visit there just a few weeks ago and of all the people I had met and whether they were safe.
For Warrington this bombing on a busy Saturday afternoon with mothers and children shopping brings such terrible memories of our own experience at the hands of mindless terrorists.
Our hearts go out to you all - the injured, the bereaved and the community at large - for no one is left untouched by events such as this.
Please pass on to your readers our heartfelt sympathy. If there is anything, we can do to help, please don't hesitate to call.
I came to Omagh to talk to community leaders about the Peace Centre we are building here in Warrington in the name of the two young boys murdered by the bombers who brought such terror to our town. I hoped there could be exchanges of young people between our two communities.
Perhaps it's too soon to talk of the future just now but I hope in time we may be able to work together - Omagh and Warrington - to demonstrate that these men and women so full of hate will never succeed, that our sincere desire for peace will triumph and that the loved ones we have lost will not have died in vain.
