THE PEOPLE OF OMAGH (POEM)
The people of Omagh
We came to your town Omagh, a year ago,
Not really knowing what to expect,
But after living here a short while,
I didn't have to look far for a friendly face of a smile,
The people in the shops always give you time of day,
Even on a busy Saturday they would chat and send you on your way,
Then one sunny Saturday afternoon, that was changed for ever,
And I became aware of why my husband was over here,
Now your town is in ruins, lives and families torn apart,
And I wake up every morning with a heavy heart,
You didn't deserve this evil, that drove into your town,
Tearing and destroying, women, children, teenagers lying all around,
The picture of this carnage will live with me for ever,
I want to gather up my family and run from your town,
But then I think of you the people of Omagh who can't run away,
And deep down in my heart, I too, pray for the strength to stay.
