DUP councillor calls for restoration of law
A DUP member of Omagh District Council has challenged the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State to act immediately to restore law and order to Northern Ireland.
Mr. Thomas Buchanan said the time had come to stop appeasing the terrorists, and put an end to the brutality which was seen in Omagh at the weekend.
He expressed sympathy to the relatives of those whose families had been torn apart as a result of the terrible atrocity on Saturday afternoon.
"My thoughts are with those who died and also with those who have lost limbs and had suffering inflicted upon them because of the bomb," he said.
Mr. Buchanan unreservedly condemned those who carried out such a brutal and cowardly act in the community of Omagh.
He said those involved in the political process continued to say that the peace process must go on; something he found difficult to comprehend when he saw the number of people who had been murdered and terribly injured.
"I challenge Mo Mowlan and Tony Blair to restore law and order back to Northern Ireland. Over the past number of years the British Government has failed to take the terrorists on at face value and bring them to justice," he said.
The Omagh councillor said until the Government took on the terrorists instead of appeasing them, the suffering which had happened in Northern Ireland over the years and in Omagh on Saturday would continue.
