HEAD'S TRIBUTE TO EXCEPTIONAL EX-PUPIL
Head's tribute to exceptional ex-pupil
OMAGH woman. Debra-Anne Cartwright, like so many others, met her death when she was evacuated from her place of work in High Street on Saturday afternoon.
The attractive 20-year-old was working in Caroline's Beauty Salon, above Kelly's Chemist, when she was evacuated and ushered down Market Street, where the blast took place.
She was the daughter of Edwin and Hazel Cartwright, of 2 Birchwood, Omagh, and had an older brother, Stephen (23).
Known as Debbie to her friends, the young woman was due to start a course in textile design in Manchester in September.
A past pupil of Omagh High School, school principal, Mr. Bill Harper, paid her a glowing tribute.
"She had an excellent school record. She was a school prefect and spoke on behalf of the school at conferences. She also collected for charities, including the Royal Institute for the Blind. She had an excellent attendance record," said Mr. Harper, who described her as an "exceptional young person".
Portrayed by her family as "full of life", Debra-Anne was also a past pupil of Omagh College of Further Education.
