ACT OF PRAYERFUL REFLECTION IS PLANNED
THE leaders of the four main churches in Ireland have called on people throughout the country to express their sympathy and solidarity with the people of Omagh on Saturday.
And they have suggested that a minute's silence be observed across the entire island at 3.10pm.
The four church leaders - the primate of the Church of Ireland, Archbishop Robin Eames, the Roman Catholic Primate, Archbishop Sean Brady, the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Dr. John Dixon, and the President of the Methodist Church, Rev. David Kerr - will be joining the community in Omagh for an act of prayerful reflection at 2.45pm in the vicinity of the courthouse.
The service has been organised by the local clergy, in cooperation with the district council, the local traders association, Omagh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Tyrone Vintners Association.
Clergy across Ireland have also been asked to organise similar events involving all the churches in their respective areas.
Those wishing to attend the Omagh remembrance ceremony are asked to be in the town by 1.30pm.
Shops and businesses will be closed, and there will be signs directing people to carparks on the periphery of the town.
A national day of mourning is planned for a later date.
