YOUNG WOMAN LOSES AS EYE - 'WE ARE THANKFUL THAT SHE IS STILL ALIVE'
THE mother-in-law of one of the victims who lost an eye in Saturday's bomb has said she is thankful she is still alive.
Twenty-seven-year-old Norma White, who is a counter assistant in the Carlton Coffee Shop in Omagh, is currently being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital, where she was flown following the blast. She suffered severe facial injuries, and other minor lacerations and cuts.
Her mother-in-law, Mrs. Grace White, narrowly escaped injury herself, as she, too, was in the town, but was not with Norma.
Speaking yesterday (Wednesday), she said: "We are just so thankful we still have our daughter-in-law. You have to think positively, and thank the 'man above'. It could have been a lot worse."
Mrs. White explained that Norma, who has a little girl, was still suffering pain, but her condition was not life-threatening.
"She had seven or eight hours of surgery, and two teams of specialists were working on her. They have done a wonderful job, and we are very grateful to them," she said.
Norma's husband, Ivor (35), who has been constantly at her side, came back to Omagh for special prayers at Creevan Presbyterian Church on Sunday, and yesterday he joined his parents to attend the funerals of family friends, Fred and Bryan White.
Mrs. Grace White met Fred White and his son, minutes before the blast went off.
"I was in the Salad Bowl, and had been talking to Fred and Bryan. I had just gone round the corner when the bomb went off," she said.
"Everybody knows somebody involved in this. Everybody has been affected in some shape or form."
