Court sitting adjourned in sympathy
TUESDAY'S sitting of Omagh Magistrates' Court was adjourned as a mark of sympathy and respect to those who were killed and injured in Saturday's bomb atrocity.
The Resident Magistrate, Mr. Paul McRandal, said there were some events which, by the sheer, mind-numbing scale of their barbarity, made the usual course of everyday life appear unreal and irrelevant.
"Such an event occurred in this town on Saturday, when, in the space of a few seconds, so many were killed and so many more suffered the most appalling injuries," he said.
The RM added: "On behalf of myself, my colleagues on the Bench and my colleagues of the Court staff, I would like to extend, to those who have been bereaved, our deepest sympathy, and to those who have been injured, our heartfelt good wishes for a speedy and complete recovery."
Mr. Ken Duncan said that he expressed sympathy on behalf of the local Bar, and indeed all solicitors, to those who had been bereaved and injured.
"An event like this leaves one speechless. We do not have the vocabulary to describe what happened in this town on Saturday," he said.
Inspector Fergus Hall said he wanted to be associated with the remarks from the Bench and the local Bar, and expressed sympathy on behalf of the RUC.
"I, like others, do not have words which adequately describe the suffering on our town," he said.
And Mr. Canice McManus, said he expressed sympathy on behalf of the Legal Bar in Strabane.
