PEOPLE WERE SCREAMING AND COVERED IN BLOOD
People were screaming and covered in blood
A 28-YEAR-OLD man spoke on Sunday of how he tended some of those wounded in the bomb blast.
Barry Brannigan said he had been walking from the Leisure Centre when the blast went off.
He said after the initial shock of the blast, the first thing he saw was a girl lying near the public toilets with one of her legs badly torn.
"I went over to her and I got my brother's girlfriend's sweat shirt and used it to cover the wound and try and stop the bleeding. We then got her into a car and she was taken to hospital," he said.
Mr. Brannigan said he then went to search for his sister who he thought was in the town that day.
"When I got into Market Street there was complete chaos. People were running about screaming, some covered in blood and their clothes torn," he said.
"There were bodies lying about the street, some with no faces and the bodies blown inside out. It was terrible," he said.
Mr. Brannigan said he did what he could to help some of those less seriously injured.
He said he had never seen a sight like it and he had never been at the scene of such carnage. He said it was only when he got home that he found that everyone in his family was all right.
This was a terrible outrage against the people of Omagh, he said.
"Everyone in this town has lived together well and relations have been good between both communities. I think this will probably unite the people even more and everyone will rally around and support each other," he said.
