MAN LEARNS OF HIS BROTHER'S DEATH WHILE HOLIDAYING IN GREECE
Man learns of his brother's death while holidaying in Greece
MR. Brian McCrory, who died in Saturday's horrendous bomb blast, was 54, and the father of a grown-up family of two sons and a daughter, none of whom are married.
He lived at Ballinamullan with his family and wife, Bernadette, and had gone into town to buy some strimming line at C.A. Anderson's in lower Market Street, and to collect tablets from a chemist.
After parking at the Bank of Ireland in Campsie, it is understood he walked up town, and was caught in the full force of the blast.
Mr. McCrory was a member of the large and popular family of the late Mr. Mick McCrory and his wife, Sheila, who had lived in a house at Mountjoy Road, close by the Omagh fire station.
The area in which he was raised, along with five brothers and four sisters, was commonly known as the 'crossroads' at Lisnamallard.
A brother, Kieran, for whom he was a crane driver, carried on his McCrory Crane Hire business to the rear of the family home in Lisanelly Avenue.
"Brian was a very quiet-spoken fellow, who was well liked, and had a wide circle of friends." said another brother, Michael, who cut short a holiday in Greece, with his wife, Una, upon learning of the tragedy.
He said his sister-in-law, Bernadette, who was from the Tirquin area, had endured enough suffering in her life, without this latest visitation of grief.
A sister, Anna, who had lived in Benburb, had died some years ago from cancer after a protracted and painful illness, while a brother, Pat (Sion Mills), had been electrocuted at work, while moving scaffolding. Another young man had been killed along with him.
Mr. Michael McCrory said his nephew, Brian (Jun) had also been on holidays, and had returned on Monday for his father's funeral.
A close neighbour of the McCrory family at Ballinamullan, Margaret McCartan, said: "Brian was a great man, one-in-a-million, a great neighbour. He lived for his home, his wife and his family."
The late Mr. McCrory is survived by his wife. Bernadette, eldest son, Colin, Brian (Jun) and daughter. Louise. He is also survived by brothers, Kieran (Omagh), Derniot (Coalisland), Michael. Raymond and Noel (Omagh), and by sisters, Ann (Liverpool), Patricia (Mrs. Sean Darcy, Tattyreagh), Deirdre (Mrs. Francis Haughey, Mountfield), and Gertrude (Trudy, Mrs. Malachy Sharkey, Omagh).
