Humbling experience says deputy PM
THE Deputy Prime Minister was 'horrified' to see the devastation caused in Omagh when he visited the site of the blast on Sunday morning.
Mr. John Prescott, who was accompanied by the Minister for Health, Mr. John McFall, said he could not believe the amount of destruction which had been caused.
And he said the bombing was a criminal act against the whole community.
And when he visited patients still detained in Tyrone County Hospital in the early afternoon, he told waiting Press that "it had been a humbling experience to meet the people who had suffered in this tragic act committed against her people of Omagh and Northern Ireland.
Mr. Prescott said the patients and relatives spoke highly of the medical staff and he said it was important that those people had got confidence in the hospital.
"You know our hospitals never ever let us down. That really is something I want to say. People came to the hospital to offer whatever help they could and play their part in helping people who had been hurt or injured," he said.
Mr. Prescott said one incident which brought a smile to mind was a mother's story to him of how her little injured boy, had woken and immediately asked how Liverpool had done in the football.
"I went to meet him later and I asked him 'what about Liverpool then' and he just said he wanted to know how they got on. I asked him if he had ever seen them and he said no.
"I told him that was a date, and that he would go to see them. I told him I would tell the PM this afternoon that he would be going to see Liverpool when he was in good health."
