Eddie 'signs up' for Omagh

Star message boosts fundraising auction
IT WASN'T enough that the chart topping Corrs performed for free in Omagh on Friday -they've now pledged to support a celebrity fundraising auction. The Dundalk supergroup has kept the donation under wraps for the moment, but organisers of the novel Internet event are delighted with their support. And last night the fund was further boosted with a signed photo from zany US comic actor, Eddie Murphy.
The black and white picture bears the hand written message: "Hey, things are changing... Peace."
Other coveted gifts include a mountain of sporting memorabilia, Eddie Irvine's motorcycle helmet, a limited edition Boyzone CD and a "Vicar of Dibley" t-shirt signed by Dawn French.
All proceeds of the auction, which is online until September 21, will be given to The Omagh Fund, set up after last year's horrific bomb attack which claimed 29 lives.
Melodic
But on Friday, the people of the town were able to put the past behind them for a while, as they bopped the night away to the melodic strains of the Corrs in concert. More than 30,000 fans packed the Showgrounds for the event, which launched the UK Millennium celebrations in style.
Television star Eamonn Holmes, helped get the party into full swing.
Secretary of State Mo Mowlam, was joined by teenage students Leanne Martin and Brendan Grimes in lighting the Millennium beacon of hope. The Omagh Celebrity Fund Auction is available on the Internet at www.auction.irl.net.
