DON'T THROW IT ALL AWAY

IT WOULD be easy to be pessimistic in the atmosphere of gloom gathering around the peace process.
Instead of political progress, we have posturing and pressure. Instead of a growing peace, we have escalating threats and violence.
The deadlock over decommissioning is creating a vacuum that's all too familiar. The eagerness of some to fill it with violence is only too familiar as well. We've had a remarkable opportunity to forge a new set of relationships in these islands, to the benefit of all.
If we throw it away now we're condemning another generation to the waste and misery of sterile conflict.
Youngsters like Laura and Nicola Hamilton deserve better.
The burden of what they suffered in the Omagh bombing has been lifted a little by the generosity of Robbie Williams in giving them his time and attention. That should be the first of many bright memories leading them out the darkness. But only a total commitment to peace by all sides can really light the way...
